Question by Jennifer G: If You Go Onto Medical School Are Your Undergraduate Student Loans Still Due as Soon as You Graduate?
Alright, I’m an undergraduate and I’ve taken a few student loans (stafford and Parent PLUS). I also plan to go onto medical or graduate school. Will I need to pay back my loans as soon as I graduate from undergraduate or can I wait until after medical or graduate school?

you don’t have to pay the loans back until after 6 months of not being enrolled as a student. as long as your loans are federal this is so.

Q&A: Is Graduate education really worth the money?

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Question by st_al_xii: Is Graduate education really worth the money?
Some people have told me that it isn’t worth the money, and some that it is. They say that when you graduate you have a huge debt, so even if you get a good job you are behind because you wouldn’t be able to buy a house or even a car because you would be paying the loans. Also, that the time you are in Graduate school you could be using it to gain experience and gaining seniority in whatever organization you are in. So is it really worth the money?

I don’t think it’s worth it from a return on investment viewpoint.
only if there’s something you really want to study in depth
and are willing to pay to study it.

Are there programs to help psychology/education students pay for graduate school?

Monday, July 5th, 2010

Question by Kay: Are there programs to help psychology/education students pay for graduate school?
I plan to become a guidance counselor, but I intend to do a graduate psychology program (either counseling or educational psychology). Are there any programs that will help pay for my schooling like there are for students in the nursing and finance fields? Or are there any jobs I can get straight out of college that will give incentives or help pay for my graduate-level work? I know of volunteer programs and others like Teach for America that offer loan forgiveness and will cover a certain amount of your loan costs, but are there ones specifically for people in the education field? All help will be greatly appreciated.

If you work for a school district now they may have tuition reimbursement. If not contact the financial aid department of the school to plan to attend.
